What do you call a woman who's never been left fuming over a guy's inexplicable behavior? Fictional. For the rest of us, Glamour got brave men to 'splain why they do those crazy things they do.

He didn't call when he said he would — why?
"Telling you he'll call is his misguided way of being polite. Would you rather he said, 'Not interested, don't expect a call'? Or maybe he was into you, but he knows it wouldn't work out. Let me clarify: I recently went out with a cool woman and was having a great time. But as the night went on, I realized she was looking for something way more serious than I was. At the end of the date, I made some noises about calling — but that was the end of that."

He went back to his ex when things with me were going really well — why?

"Most men, believe it or not, have a harder time letting go than women do. Chalk it up to thinking we should be able to fix anything that's broken, even a relationship. Also, there's the critical three-month milestone to consider, the make-it-or-break-it deadline in a guy's mind. We try a new situation out, see if we like it, and then after 12 weeks, if we're still thinking about that ex ... you get the idea."


He broke up with me by sending an e-mail — why?

"In case you haven't noticed, we will do almost anything to avoid talking about our feelings. Handling relationship business by e-mail means we can get out of the whole breakup conversation. And, hello, women are guilty of this too. That said, it's still insulting and thoughtless, and most men won't stoop to that level. If he does, forget him — he's a chicken who isn't worth your time anyway."


When we go out, he never makes the plans — why?

"There are a couple of reasons. One, guys are lazy — once we're in a solid relationship, we think we don't have to work at it anymore. Two, we spend as much time wondering what you want as you do wondering what we're thinking. Make it easy on us and just tell us if you want to try a new restaurant, see a specific movie, take a walk in the park or what have you. Please!?"
